Kabataan Party bullies directs their unspent anger on Akbayan Party. |
Medyo tumahimik sa "recycling" plant dahil walang mapag-usapan maliban sa The Walking Dead at The Arrow.
Leading to 2013 polls, CPP preparing new round of witch-hunts against Akbayan and other progressives

We express alarm over a November 7, 2012 article of Ang Bayan (http://www.philippinerevolution.net/publications/ang_bayan/20121107/akbayan-is-aquino-s-puppet), the official publication of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) wherein it branded Akbayan as an “active partner” of the government in the implementation of the Armed Forces of the Philippines’s Oplan Bayanihan against its military wing, the New People’s Army (NPA).
We categorically deny this accusation. Akbayan is a political party which aspires to be a major vehicle for the projection and pursuit of a progressive reform agenda. It is currently engaged in parliamentary work as one of its many platforms to transform the dominant practice of personality-and-patronage-based politics. It has no ties whatsoever to any state or non-state armed group. In fact, Akbayan has a strong position against human rights abuses committed by both state and non-state armed elements.
The CPP’s renewed attack against Akbayan is nothing but a witch-hunt. Like any witch-hunt, it is using hysteria, unscrupulous vilification and outlandish insinuations to those who would be deceived to lynch and kill the intended victim. History will point us to the atrocious character of this act. Witch-hunts have always been initiated by groups and institutions that believe they have a monopoly of truth targeting those that differ from their views. The CPP’s latest tirade against Akbayan is no different.

Witch-hunts have always been initiated by groups and institutions that believe they have a monopoly of truth targeting those that differ from their views. The CPP’s latest tirade against Akbayan is no different.
The CPP's new round of witch-hunts are bound to endanger the lives of Akbayan members and other progressives belonging to people's organizations, NGOs and other left groups which differ with the CPP and its allied organizations on political principles, strategies and methods. By accusing Akbayan of being an “active partner” of the government in its military operations against its ranks, the CPP is virtually stating that Akbayan is a legitimate military target of its armed wing.
This is not the first time that the CPP has tagged Akbayan as an “enemy” of its “armed revolution.” In 2005, the CPP released a hitlist containing the names of what it deemed as “counterrevolutionaries” and “class enemies.” Among those in the list were Akbayan Representative Walden Bello, current Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Chairperson Etta Rosales, former Akbayan President Ricardo Reyes and Akbayan leaders Nathan Quimpo and Sixto Carlos. Thus far, three other progressive personalities who were part of the “diagram” were already killed.
The CPP’s witch-hunt is also bound to harm the legitimate struggles and other activities being pursued by progressives and their organizations. As shown by events of previous years, similar CPP witch-hunts were taken advantage of by landlords, warlords, corrupt and abusive politicians to unleash their goons to harass, harm, and even kill peasant, labor, community and LGU leaders who belong to progressive organizations with different orientation from those of the CPP and its allied organizations.
Furthermore, it also gives military and police personnel with fascist orientation to foment bloody intrigues within the progressive community. Lest we forget, during the reign of the previous government, Arroyo’s military leadership blamed the wave of extra-judicial killings of many activists to the CPP and other left groups.
Hence, the CPP’s witch-hunts are an aggravating factor to the political violence committed against the broad progressive community. Not discounting the fact that its renewed attacks against Akbayan coincides with a malicious disqualification campaign mounted by certain groups against the political party; this becomes more perilous as we fast approach the midterm elections this 2013. If the CPP’s increasing hostile behavior remains unchallenged, it could signal the intensification of attacks against Akbayan and other left forces outside the CPP from political denigration to physical harm. The CPP’s witch-hunt will certainly contribute in the escalation of political violence that comes with the elections.
In this regard, we call on all the social movements and progressive leaders and members of the churches, media, the professions, business and government to express their grave concern and to demand from the CPP and their allied organizations to stop their acts which are inimical to building and expanding the solidarity of the people's movements for social, political and economic change.
We also urge the public to join the broad progressive community in expressing its grave concern concerning the CPP’s actions that serve as an obstruction to the people’s aspiration for genuine social change. On our part, Akbayan will continue with its efforts to push for meaningful reforms. One of the best responses to attacks mounted against the forces of change is to further deepen reforms inside and outside the government and to succeed in our collective endeavor in mainstreaming progressive and democratic politics in our country. ###
